Home Sweet Home...Almost

Home shopping is ridiculous in Southern California. Not only are prices crazy, but competition is hotter than ever! We found this great place in Aliso Viejo, which I had mentioned in a previous blog. The sales office said that the first release of homes will occur on Saturday, April 14. We were quite excited and thought maybe we should “camp out” on Friday night. But then in retrospect, we didn’t want to break any rules and be disqualified, so Ravi decided to ask if this is possible. He made a call to the sales office late Friday morning. To our surprise, the sales lady said that people have been “camping out” since the previous Saturday! There wasn’t really a chance we would get the floor plan of our choice, but we had the hope, and Ravi headed over to the sales office for the day and was given the position of ‘Camper #6.” There were only 7 homes released, and only two that had the floor plan of our choice. By the time our number was called Saturday morning, the floor plans that we liked were gone. :( After disappointing and depressing afternoon, we joined up with Shila and Mike for a hike and then hung out with others to help take the pain away….

On Monday afternoon, April 16, the sales lady calls up to tell us that the new sales release will be on Saturday the 21st. She also told that only 4 others would be informed, before the general public notice on Tuesday. Ravi and I contemplated if we should literally “camp out” and sleep in front of the sales office on Monday night or just show up on Tuesday, to be the first person in line? Well, guess what, the adventurous people that we are, we headed straight to the sales office, Monday night, and had a very uncomfortable sleep in the car. But it paid off, and we were number one, Tuesday morning. To hold number one status, Ravi had to come in everyday and “camp out” at the sales office from 10am – 5pm all day. At least he could come home after 5, but he was stuck there all day for the entire week. And thanks to Ravi’s consistent ‘camping out’ we will be moving into our very own brand new home in November 2007. Yay! Now we will have space for everyone.
